Boltology: Alloy 20 Bolts, Nuts, and fasteners
Considered a “super” alloy of stainless steel, Carpenter 20 (also known as Alloy-20) is practically immune to chloride pitting… which is what makes it so popular within the chemical, food, plastic, and pharmaceutical industries. This alloy offer great resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in mid concentration sulfuric acid. This can be seen in within the food and dye industry alloy-20 bolts and alloy 20 nuts which are used in SO2 scrubbers. Its corrosion resistance to acid attack is due to its unique composition of chromium, nickel, molybdenum and copper. It is also used in other industries such as pharmaceuticals, refineries and many other manufacturing facilities, despite being designed for acidic conditions.
With a tensile strength of 80ksi, Alloy 20 bolting offers the strength for most applications while also highly resistant to corrosion in acidic applications.
